Materials

From aluminium brackets to titanium fittings.

Cutting data, tooling and fixturing are set per material and per feature — not by a house default.

Aluminium alloys

Lightweight brackets, housings and structural parts

6061, 7075 and cast plate. High-speed strategies with through-tool air or coolant.

Titanium alloys

High-strength, high-temperature aerospace and defence components

Low surface speed, heavy flood coolant and rigid fixturing to control heat and chatter.

Stainless steels

Corrosion-resistant fittings, fluid-system and marine parts

303, 304 and 316. Sharp geometry and controlled feed to avoid work-hardening.

Alloy and carbon steels

High-load shafts, gears and structural fittings

EN8, EN24 and equivalents. Roughing and finishing split to hold post-stress geometry.

Tool steels

Jigs, fixtures, gauges and tooling components

Machined soft where possible, with allowance planned for heat treatment movement.

Copper alloys

Fittings, bushes, electrical and fluid-system parts

Brass and bronze. Polished tooling to keep gummy materials from smearing the finish.

Polycarbonate & engineering plastics

Transparent covers, guards and lightweight non-metallic components

Single-flute tooling and vacuum or low-clamp fixturing to avoid crazing and distortion.

Material traceability maintained on every order · certificates supplied on request

Before you specify

Three things that decide whether a tolerance is realistic.

01

Material stability

Stock that carries residual stress will move when you cut it. On thin or asymmetric parts we split roughing and finishing, and allow the part to relax in between.

02

Wall thickness and access

A thin wall or a deep pocket sets the tool reach, and tool reach sets the achievable tolerance. Tell us the critical features early and we will advise on the geometry.

03

How it will be measured

A tolerance is only meaningful against a stated datum scheme. We agree the inspection method — CMM or vision — at the quotation stage, not after machining.

Not sure the material is machinable to your tolerance?

Send the drawing and the specification. We will tell you what is achievable, what needs a design tweak, and how we would inspect it.
